Dark light netflix. Dark light joondalup. Dark light neron. Dark lighthouse. DARK LIGHT is a new horror sci-fi movie on Netflix. It has some impressive practical effects but the story is severely lacking. With a crisp 90 minute runtime, it should not feel this long. Read more in our full Dark Light review and check it out on Netflix now! Dark Light is a new movie on Netflix in the horror, sci-fi and thriller genres. The opening scene is pretty good, but it doesn’t get better from there. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. The final 15-20 minutes feels like running in circles and it’s just a damn shame. Production quality is good, but the story is so bad that even the actors look like amateurs. However, please don’t hate on the actors in this. Working with this story (and some horribly stiff dialogue) cannot have been easy. Continue reading our Dark Light review below. Jessica Madsen and Opal Littleton star The story of Dark Light revolves mostly around the characters portrayed by Jessica Madsen and Opal Littleton. The two are mother and daughter. If you were ever in doubt of this fact, you will soon be reminded. Only very few of the lines spoken by Opal Littleton do not end in the word “mommy”. It is unnerving! But, I repeat, do not blame the actors for this. You can almost see how terrible this dialogue must look on paper and it does not get better when spoken out loud. Jessica Madsen does what she can as the mother fighting for her daughter, but it’s an uphill battle with this script. Also, you should recognize Jessica Madsen from the 2017 Leatherface movie. You might like: Our review of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel Leatherface here > She was damn cool in Leatherface, which is extremely fortunate right now. After watching Jessica Madsen in Dark Light you would not be impressed. I mean, she’s cool and all in this movie as well. It’s just that the lines and actions of her character tend to be rather weird and nonsensical. A stereotypical horror girl If Opal Littleton looks familiar, it might be because you’ve seen the first episode of the reality horror series Prank Encounters on Netflix. Recommended reading: You can read our review of Prank Encounters on Netflix here > Opal Littleton was the star of Prank Encounters episode 1 and looks exactly the same in Dark Light. It made sense in the Netflix reality horror spoof show, but in this movie, it seems ridiculous. She looks like a cookie-cutter horror girl that’s been cut from precisely the same mold as Carol Anne in Poltergeist. No, it’s not cute or an “homage”, it’s just lazy! The one exception in terms of being too square and predictable a character is that of Sheriff Dickerson. She is portrayed by Kristina Clifford, who manages to get away with almost everything and seem believable. Okay, her last scene isn’t impressive, but (again) I blame the script and not her acting. Kristina Clifford is the one actor who can walk away from this mess happy! She’s also in the horror-comedy Butt Boy which will be out soon. Watch Dark Light on Netflix now! Padraig Reynolds wrote and directed Dark Light and his movies seem to all land around a 4-4. 5 rating on IMDb. I don’t know that this is fair for all of them, but for Dark Light, it’s pretty accurate. Previously, Padraig Reynolds has written and directed the movie Rites of Spring (2011). He also directed Worry Dolls from 2016, which he did not write. Basically, I just want to state that Padraig Reynolds has years of experience which is why I don’t understand his latest movie. I feel like Dark Light could have been a lot better. There’s just so damn much that doesn’t make sense. At all. The practical effects and the look of the actual monsters are very cool. It makes no sense in terms of details of the story, but it looks good. And maybe that’s where the problem is; It’s all about form and not so much about content. If the monsters weren’t so well made, this movie would have gotten a 1-star rating… Dark Light is out on Netflix in the US from April 5, 2020. It should also be out in Canada and the UK now. Details Director: Padraig Reynolds Writer: Padraig Reynolds Stars: Jessica Madsen, Opal Littleton, Ed Brody, Kristina Clifford, Gerald Tyler, Ben Sullivan Plot of Dark Light Implicated in her daughter’s disappearance, a mother searches for answers when she returns to an old family home that may have an unwanted visitor. Author Recent Posts I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure! Latest posts by Karina "ScreamQueen" Adelgaard ( see all).

Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2019 Verified Purchase 3. 7 STARS This film starts off super strong,... at the 3min mark the film has you fully engaged,... the intensity of suspense stays strong with a great country Gothic atmosphere, and near perfect creepy cinematography,... up until about the 30 minute mark,... right up until the creature is reviled,... then the whole film fell apart for TheGhoststarOriginaL. Look we get it,... a good creature / alien is difficult to create,... but its what makes you or breaks you in the science fiction bizz,... they are rare and extremely hard to come up with,... that being said,... this film could have been a true contender if not for the failed attempt at creature effects!!! P. S. did so enjoy seeing the last make n model of the Isuzu Trooper so nicely displayed!!! PURCHASED,.. should have RenteD!!! OK entry for your alien / creature feature farmhouse collections!!! Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2019 Verified Purchase It was promising, but the actual execution was shot to hell. *WARNING: THERE WILL BE SPOILERS BUT THEY'RE NECESSARY TO DEMONSTRATE THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS* Let's start with the good stuff: * Great initial idea. Reptilians/Hollow Earth conspiracy theories may be dumb beliefs, but they make surprisingly good horror subjects. Mixing it in with the old "this is why kids go missing! " angle is smart. * The creature design is mostly derivative (I'm pretty sure the upper and lower torso of this monster have been recycled since the original Pumpkinhead) but the facial design of the creature is an interesting twist. Clearly someone watched Netflix's Lost in Space redux. * Nice setting. Old farm houses in corn fields may be overused, but they never fail. And now the cons: * The narrative structure is horrific. It starts the first half using an out of sequence approach, jumping from past to present. But by the middle of the film, the production just abandons it and uses a normal, one direction, linear story. There's no hard and fast rule to how to write narratives, but doing this makes it seem like there's a bunch of plot details missing. There are sequences that seem to go missing. Some are minor- like when did the protagonist buy weaponry (it's covered by a line later in the film, but it feels like a post production correction to catch the omission)- but some are major- how did the night the ex-husband got shot start and more importantly HOW DOES THE HUSBAND SHOW BACK UP UNSCRATCHED AFTER BEING SHOT????? * There's also inconsistent writing in general. If that's her childhood home, how did she never encounter the things before? Why does the kidnapping of the daughter look like it was voluntary ("No mommy! " The daughter screams when the protagonist tries to shoot it)? How did the bodies go down River from the person transport when the truck wasn't actually in the water? * Piggy backing off the last point, it feels like someone started writing the film, communicated the idea of the film to someone else who started snoring off in the middle of the conversation, and then that person picked it up and and finished it. For example, the creatures feed off "energy"- and the effects clearly look like sucking bio-electric energy- but the film reveals that the creature is weak to electricity. If it feeds off electricity, wouldn't that empower it? Then there's the ending: there's a cliffhanger that shows multiple creatures in the fields, suggesting there terror isn't over. This would be great if it wasn't for the fact that really in the movie it was revealed there were multiple creatures, in the damn bloody field. The end result as you watch the finale is "Why is she trying to burn the whole house with one thing inside? She knows there's a ton of them and they're all outside. " So when we get to the reveal of a number of them in the fields at the end, it's basically "Uh, duh. NO SHOOT, SHERLOCK. " WHY are there nosebleeds? It's suggested that the creatures can addle people, but the protagonist got them without creatures present. Was there a plot point with this? In the end, the film fails because of both forced and unforced errors. Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2020 Verified Purchase I appreciate the jump scares. But as others have said, this could have been so much better. The acting was lacking. It was did not flow well. I am not great at critiquing the film industry but I know when they are not well done. This one felt like a Hollywood production from a new comer is the best way I can describe it. It was like they had enough money but not very much experience. SPOILER ALERTS: And I don't think the writer or director did much research on middle earth creatures. There are tons of it. They should have been able to come up with a much more believable middle earth monster; something like a lizard/human. All crypto lovers know this. Also, dark light has nothing to do with middle earth people. They do not need our light. Its the creatures that come from the higher energies that are trying to live in the low energy places that need to steal energy from us. They no longer have access to the higher energies to sustain themselves, is my understanding. The middle earth creatures do have access to the energy they need. Although they prefer the sun, they have places in middle earth where they can enjoy a synthetic version. These creatures are dangerous to us if we go looking for them deep in the caves. They are jealous of us because at a certain point in our history, we were seeded by a far high intelligence which they believe they should have been chosen for. This is why we can not find the 'missing link'. There is not one. We were one thing. Now we are another but we did not evolve on our own. But the mid earth creatures are very intelligent, far more than those of us still only accessing our human brains for information versus our higher selves/minds. I was pretty excited when I read from another review this movie had to do with middle earth creatures. But it could have been so much better with just a little research. They did leave it open for a sequel. I would love to see that but with a little more work put in to it and maybe cleaning up the first one somehow. Or maybe someone else could re-do it; someone with some passion for the subjects.. Again, Dark Light has nothing to do with Middle earth beings although they are intelligent enough to tell even our scientists probably the truths about dark light and for sure the mistakes in our maths, and the dinosaurs we 'pieced' together to name a few subjects that we have, humorously to them, gotten very wrong. They say when we find their bones, because some folk refuse to believe they exist until there is proof of their bones, we add them incorrectly to our dinosaurs. You gotta see the humor in that. Good thing we can laugh at and with ourselves. And good thing more are coming to understand the things/forces we can not see are far greater than those we can see with our human eyeballs. Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2019 Verified Purchase The story is good. The acting is for the most part ok. The feeding habits of the cool looking creatures were not believable. If the creatures made better sense, I might have given this an additional star. I can’t really recommend this film. It’s just mediocre. Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2019 Verified Purchase Padraig Reynolds does it again with his latest creature feature. Absolutely, loved the cinematic creepiness achieved by David Matthews and John El Manahi. Exceptional performances by Jessica Madsen and Opal Littleton. Dark light and shadow.

I didn't really have much of any expectations for "Dark Light" from writer and director Padraig Reynolds. But still, this was a new horror movie, and being a life-long avid horror afficianado, of course I took the time to sit down and watch "Dark Light.
Turns out that it was actually time, money and effort well invested, because "Dark Light" turned out to be a rather enjoyable horror movie. What really worked was the way that director Padraig Reynolds had managed to capture the essence of the horror movies that I grew up with during the late 1980s and early 1990s. So this felt very much like a trip down memory lane for me.
While the storyline was generic; especially for someone like myself having grown up watching just about every single horror movie that I could manage to get my hands on, then there was just something essentially right about this movie.
The creature design was definitely interesting, and something that you haven't really seen in other movies. I will not ruin anything here and give anything away, you just have to watch it for yourself.
As for the acting in the movie, well of course you shouldn't be expecting any award-winning performances here, because the movie is not driven by character performances. Don't get me wrong here, because I will say that the acting in the movie was good.
My rating of "Dark Light" is a six out of ten stars.
